Bali is the most-booked honeymoon destination for Indian couples in 2026. Here's the exact week-by-week planning timeline we walk every couple through. Bookmark this.
6 months out — fix the dates & budget
Decide three things first: when, how many days, and budget. Skip the destination — you've already chosen Bali (it's in the title, fam).
Best months for Bali honeymoon: April, May, June, September, October. Avoid July-August (peak Australian/European tourist crowd) and January-February (heaviest monsoon).
Ideal duration: 7 nights / 8 days. Less than 6 nights feels rushed. More than 8 starts to drag.
Budget bands (per couple, all-inclusive from Delhi):
- Budget honeymoon: ₹85,000 – ₹1.2 lakh
- Mid-range romantic: ₹1.5 – 2 lakh
- Premium villa experience: ₹2.5 – 4 lakh
- Luxury (Four Seasons, Hanging Gardens): ₹4.5 lakh+
5 months out — book flights
Bali doesn't have direct flights from India. You'll connect through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, or Bangkok. Best airlines:
- Singapore Airlines: premium experience, ₹65,000-90,000 per couple
- Malaysia Airlines: good value, ₹55,000-75,000
- Thai Airways: overnight stop in Bangkok possible, ₹50,000-70,000
- Scoot/AirAsia: budget option, ₹40,000-55,000 (no meals, baggage extra)
Book through travel agent OR directly via airline website (sometimes better fares). Avoid third-party aggregators for international flights — refund/change policies become nightmares.
4 months out — choose your villa strategy
This is the big decision. Three strategies that actually work:
Strategy 1: All-Ubud (introverted couple)
7 nights at a single private pool villa in Ubud. Examples: Hanging Gardens of Bali, Viceroy Bali, Bisma Eight. Spend days reading, swimming, getting massages. Romantic, restful, photo-worthy. Recommended budget: ₹2.5L+.
Strategy 2: Ubud + Seminyak (balanced couple)
3 nights Ubud (culture, rice fields, spa) + 4 nights Seminyak (beach, nightlife, dining). Most popular choice for first-timers. Best of both worlds. Budget: ₹1.5L-2.5L.
Strategy 3: Ubud + Nusa Dua (luxury seekers)
3 nights Ubud + 4 nights Nusa Dua at a 5-star beach resort (Mulia, Four Seasons, St. Regis). Most refined option. Quieter than Seminyak. Budget: ₹3L+.
3 months out — apply for visa
Indian passport holders get visa on arrival for Bali ($35-50). Just carry the cash. Also available: e-visa online (slightly cheaper). 30-day validity.
Documents to carry: passport (6+ months validity), return ticket, hotel booking confirmation, $35-50 cash USD/IDR/SGD.
Allow 30 minutes at Denpasar immigration even with visa on arrival. Lines can be slow.
2 months out — book experiences
The experiences you need to book in advance (others can be arranged once there):
- Couples spa at top venues (book the slot you want — they fill up)
- Romantic candlelight dinner at La Lucciola, Manarai, or Plataran Cliff (Uluwatu)
- Private boat trip to Nusa Penida (if planned)
- Photographer for honeymoon photoshoot (book at least 60 days out for popular ones)
1 month out — practical prep
- Travel insurance (mandatory, ₹800-1500 per person)
- International SIM or roaming pack (Airtel/Jio international packs work well)
- Forex — carry $300-400 in cash, rest on multi-currency card
- Inform credit card companies of foreign travel
- Download offline Google Maps for Bali
- Book airport transfers in advance (Bali traffic is unpredictable)
2 weeks out — packing
Essentials:
- Light, breathable clothes (cotton/linen)
- One nice outfit each for romantic dinners
- Swimsuits (multiple pairs — you'll be in water often)
- Sarongs (for temple visits, women's shoulders must be covered)
- Reef-safe sunscreen (regular sunscreen damages Bali's coral reefs)
- Mosquito repellent (Bali has them)
- Comfortable sandals + one nice pair
- Power bank, universal adapter
- Imodium and basic medicines (Bali belly is real for some)
What to do — the must-experiences
Order these by priority:
- Tegalalang sunrise — wake up at 5 AM, see the rice terraces at golden hour. Magic. Best photos.
- Uluwatu sunset + Kecak fire dance — cliffside temple, monkeys, sunset, traditional dance. Unforgettable.
- Romantic dinner cruise — sunset cruise on Bali Hai or Indo Tradition for 3 hours of bliss.
- Couples spa — minimum 90 minutes. Book at Karsa Spa or AYANA Spa.
- Mount Batur sunrise hike — 2 AM start, hike up volcano for sunrise. Adventurous couples only.
- Nusa Penida day trip — Kelingking Beach (T-Rex shape), Angel's Billabong. Long day but worth it.
What to skip
- Kuta Beach — touristy, crowded, dirty in places
- Bali Safari — sad animal conditions, ethically questionable
- Drinking-focused beach clubs unless that's your scene
- Trying to fit in Lombok or Komodo islands (separate trip)
The cultural & etiquette notes
- Bali is 87% Hindu. Hindu Indians get warm reception. Respect temple etiquette.
- Cover shoulders & knees at temples. Sarongs provided at entrance.
- Don't step on offerings (small flower baskets on streets — they're religious).
- Bargain at markets, not in restaurants/spas (rates are fixed there).
- Tip 5-10% at restaurants (service charge often not included).
Common honeymoon mistakes to avoid
- Overstuffing the itinerary. You'll exhaust each other. Plan 1-2 activities per day max.
- Choosing villa for Instagram, not for location. A 2-hour drive to anywhere = wasted time.
- Booking budget flights with overnight layovers. Arrive exhausted, ruin first 2 days.
- Not buying travel insurance. Foreign hospital bills are no joke.
- Posting too much on social media during the trip. Be present. The Insta posts can wait.
