Singapore with kids — the actually-useful 2026 guide

Universal Studios, Sentosa, Gardens by the Bay, and which attractions kids of different ages actually love. From two-time Singapore parents.

BY ANKUR BHARDWAJ   ·   2 April 2026

Singapore is the easiest first international trip with kids — short flight, English-speaking, vegetarian-friendly, ultra-clean, packed with kid attractions. Here's what to do, organised by your child's age.

For ages 2-5: stick to gentle experiences

Skip: Universal Studios, Night Safari, anything with long queues or loud noises.

Do:

  • Singapore Zoo (morning) — open enclosures, no glass barriers. Kids can see animals close up. Allow 4 hours.
  • S.E.A. Aquarium — one of the world's largest. Magical for toddlers. 2-3 hours.
  • Gardens by the Bay (Cloud Forest specifically) — feels like a fantasy movie. Misty waterfall.
  • Marina Barrage — free, open grass, picnic spot. Kids run around. Adults relax.
  • Sentosa Beach — calm waters, soft sand. Stay close to shore.

Pacing tip: 1 major attraction per day max. Toddlers melt down by 3 PM. Plan early starts.

For ages 6-12: the golden Singapore age

This age group will love almost everything. Highlights:

  • Universal Studios Singapore — full day. Don't try to combine with anything else.
  • Adventure Cove Waterpark — at Sentosa, snorkel with sharks (safely).
  • Sentosa Skyline Luge — gravity-driven mini-go-karts. Kids beg to do it 5 times.
  • Mega Adventure Park — zip lines, climbing.
  • iFly — indoor sky diving simulator.
  • ArtScience Museum — interactive exhibits, very Insta-worthy.

For teens: more sophisticated picks

  • Marina Bay Sands SkyPark — infinity pool view (only for guests of the hotel, but rooftop bar accessible).
  • Esplanade Theatre shows — concerts, plays, Broadway-style productions.
  • Haji Lane shopping — quirky boutiques, Instagram murals.
  • Hawker centres (Lau Pa Sat, Maxwell) — cheap, delicious, multicultural food. Teen-friendly adventure.
  • Singapore Flyer at sunset — giant Ferris wheel, panoramic views.

The 5-day Singapore family itinerary

Day 1: Arrival. Settle in. Evening Gardens by the Bay (Supertree light show is FREE — 7:45 PM and 8:45 PM nightly). Dinner at Satay by the Bay.

Day 2: Singapore Zoo morning (better animal activity). River Wonders adjacent. Lunch in zoo. Evening Boat Quay walk + dinner.

Day 3: Universal Studios Sentosa. Full day. Don't try to add anything. Dinner near Sentosa.

Day 4: S.E.A. Aquarium morning. Adventure Cove or Skyline Luge afternoon. Evening Wings of Time light show on Siloso Beach.

Day 5: Half day free for shopping (Orchard Road) or repeat favourite activity. Evening Marina Bay light show, Singapore Flyer. Departure.

Where to stay with kids

Best zones:

  • Sentosa Island: all attractions within walking distance. Quiet, kid-paced. Recommended: Resorts World Sentosa hotels, Capella Singapore.
  • Marina Bay area: close to Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay Sands. Lots of restaurants. Recommended: Pan Pacific, Mandarin Oriental, Marina Bay Sands.
  • Orchard Road: shopping district. Walking distance to malls, food courts. Recommended: Hotel Jen Orchardgateway, Concorde Hotel.

Avoid: Geylang area (red-light district), Little India in peak season (more crowded than relevant).

Singapore for vegetarian Indian families

Singapore is excellent. Multiple options:

  • Pure veg Indian: Komala Vilas, Anjappar, Tulasi Vegetarian, MTR (yes, our MTR).
  • Veg-friendly mixed: Most hawker centres have at least 2-3 veg stalls. Look for "no pork no lard" signs.
  • Jain food: Available at most Indian restaurants — just ask. Some pure Jain places exist in Little India.

Money & budget

5-day family trip (2 adults + 2 kids), mid-range:

  • Flights (Delhi-Singapore return): ₹85,000
  • 4-star hotel (5 nights, family room): ₹85,000
  • Visa (eVisa Singapore): ₹1,800
  • Attractions (Universal Studios, Zoo, Aquarium, etc.): ₹45,000
  • Food (breakfast included, lunches at hawkers, dinners restaurants): ₹40,000
  • Local transport (mostly MRT/walking): ₹6,000
  • Shopping & misc: ₹25,000

Total: ₹2,87,000 (₹72,000 per person).

Practical tips parents wish they knew

  • Singapore is HOT. Year-round 28-32°C with high humidity. Carry water, sunscreen, hats.
  • MRT is the best public transport in the world. Kids love trains. Get an EZ-Link card.
  • Taxis are reliable but pricier than MRT. Use Grab app for cheaper rides.
  • Strollers welcome everywhere. Singapore is the most stroller-friendly city in Asia.
  • Restaurants have changing tables & high chairs. Don't be shy to ask.
  • Don't drink street water. Tap water is safe but bottled is cheap.
  • Plug type: G (UK 3-pin). Carry adapter.

The honest reality check

Singapore is delightful but expensive. Don't expect Bali prices. A simple meal can cost ₹600-1,200 per person at restaurants. Hawker centres bring this to ₹250-400 — much more sustainable for week-long trips.

Also: 5 days is the sweet spot. 3 days feels rushed. 7+ days starts to feel repetitive.

Pair it with Malaysia?

Many families combine Singapore + Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur + Genting Highlands) into a 7-night trip. Singapore Airlines and AirAsia both have cheap inter-city flights. KL has more affordable hotels and food. The combination gives variety. We can plan it as a single trip.
